Why do my glasses look cloudy no matter what I do?

Midwestern water is often very hard, and minerals bake onto glass and onto the inside surfaces of the machine. A descaling routine and clear spray arm jets help. If the film is still there after that, we check fill level, water temperature, and the dispenser.

Is standing water in the tub always a clog?

Not always. It can be a drain pump that hums but doesn't move water, a check valve stuck open, or a high drain loop that was never installed. We test the pump under load before pulling any plumbing apart.

My dishwasher smells sour. Is that a repair issue?

Sometimes. Odor usually comes from trapped food in the filter, the sump, or the folds of the door gasket. If cleaning those doesn't fix it, water may be sitting in the tub between cycles, and that points to a drainage problem worth a look.

Can you work on built-in units under a stone counter?
